Music Therapist (Surgical) at Boston Children's Hospital summary:

The Music Therapist (Surgical) provides therapeutic music interventions to support the developmental, rehabilitative, psychological, and socioemotional needs of surgical inpatients and their families. They collaborate with interdisciplinary medical teams to assess and address the clinical and psychoeducational needs of patients undergoing medical and surgical treatments. Additionally, they offer guidance to students and interns while adhering to professional standards and ethics in music therapy practice.

Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Inpatient Surgical - The Music Therapist will:

• Provide music therapy to support the developmental, rehabilitative, psychological, socioemotional, and psychoeducational needs of BCH patients and families from various demographic and multicultural backgrounds.
• Working in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to assess, evaluate, and document the therapeutic needs of patients to address the medical, procedural, surgical, diagnostic, and prognostic experiences of patients and families.
• Providing basic guidance and instruction on student/intern performance and interactions with patients and families.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy

Experience: 1 year work experience in a medical setting and/or working with children.

• The ability to adhere to AMTA standards of practice, code of ethics and professional competencies.
• Demonstrated proficient knowledge in music therapy clinical practice, musical skills, child development and the impact of healthcare on neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Licensure/Certifications: Certification or the eligibility to sit for certification exam within 18 months of hire are preferred
